1. By Plane

There are four options available to arrive at Drake Bay Town:
Fly direct to the Drake Bay Airport daily from San Jose (40 minutes).
  • Sansa www.flysansa.com

2. By bus and boat

Two boats leave daily from Sierpe (near to Palmar Norte) to Drake Bay at 11:30am and 3:30pm.
  • To connect with the first boat, take the 6:30 am bus from San Jose to Palmar Norte (6 hours) departing from the TRACOPA Station. To get from Palmar Norte to Sierpe, a ‘colectivo’ taxi is much cheaper ($5) than a private one ($20). Once you get to Palmar Norte, ask for a "taxi colectivo", otherwise, you have to pay for a private one.
  • The second bus leaves at 8:30 (direct to Sierpe). You have to take the last boat to Drake Bay (3:30 pm). The boat journey (1 hour) costs $15-$20.
When you arrive in Drake Bay beach, somebody will be waiting for you to take you to the place you are going to stay.

3. By bus

This route is slow (9-10 hours) but only involves one connection and is simple. From San José, take the 8:00am bus to Puerto Jiménez from outside Terminal Transportes Blanco (Address: Street 14, between Avenue 9 and 11). The ticket costs around $15.00. Tell the driver that you wish to get off at La Palma (Osa) (8 hours). The local colectivo minibus leaves La Palma for Drake Bay at around 4:30 pm. Tell the driver that you wish to get off at DRAKE BAY NATURE OFFICE (1 and a half hours) and then, somebody will get you to the place you are going to stay.
Please, note that this bus service is not always reliable and is weather dependent, so you can find yourself spending a night in La Palma

4. By car

If you are driving from San José, take the "COSTANERA" highway (route 34) to Palmar Norte. Once you have passed through Palmar Norte Town, drive 40 more minutes, at Chacarita turn South toward Puerto Jiménez (route 245). At Rincón Bridge , turn West onto the road to Drake Bay. Once you have passed through the village of Rancho Quemado you will drive 15 more minutes to get to DRAKE BAY NATURE Headquarters. One of the staff will be waiting for you to welcome you.
Have a nice trip! Drive safe.
